Ava Bousquet: The Reigning Queen of WMass Returns
If you caught any WMass field hockey last fall, you already know the name. Ava Bousquet is back for her senior season at Longmeadow, and she's on an absolute tear. She led the entire state in scoring with 32 goals and 18 assists en route to being named Western Mass. Player of the Year by MassLive in December 2025. Oh, and she's already committed to Boston College - announcing her NCAA Division I decision on June 15, 2026 - so you know she's playing with zero pressure and all the confidence in the world. Expect her to be the most targeted player in the region - and still find ways to torch defenses.

The Elite Goalkeeper and the Junior Phenom
While Bousquet grabs the headlines, Northampton's Emma Sullivan is the brick wall who could steal the show. The senior goalkeeper posted a ridiculous 0.86 goals-against average with 12 shutouts last year. Fresh off a spot on the USA Field Hockey U-19 National Futures Championship roster this July, she's the biggest reason Northampton is a legitimate state-title threat again. The Blue Devils finished 19-3-0 in 2025, with 14 of those wins coming by shutout - and Sullivan was the backbone of all of it.

The junior put up 27 goals as the only underclassman on the Massachusetts High School Field Hockey Coaches Association All-State First Team in November 2025. She's younger than the stars above, but her game is already at an elite level. Keep an eye on her to take another massive leap in production this fall.
The Frontier Factor and a Coach's Confidence
You can't talk WMass field hockey without mentioning Frontier Regional. Lily Carter is back for her senior season and is the two-time defending Western Mass. Division 3 Player of the Year (2024, 2025). She's committed to Springfield College - announced via her Twitter/X account on July 28, 2026 - but make no mistake: she wants to leave Frontier with another ring. Carter scored in 18 of Frontier's 22 games last season, and the Red Hawks finished a strong 16-4-2.
Over in Longmeadow, head coach Liz Ferry isn't hiding her excitement. In an early August interview with the Daily Hampshire Gazette, she confirmed that every All-WMass First Team player from her squad is returning, including senior captains Maeve Gallagher and Sophia Ricci. That's a massive statement. A 22-1-1 record and a state title later - they beat Acton-Boxborough 2-1 in the November 2025 championship - the Lancers aren't rebuilding: they're reloading.
